Coach Marc A. Kelly finished his 8th year at the helm of the Varsity, with an overall record of 151-21-7 (a 0.843 winning percentage), and was awarded Desert Valley Region Coach of the Year for the second-year straight.
Ending the 2008-09 season with a final record of 23-4, the team didn't eventually defend their '08 state title (losing 1-0 to eventual state-champs Highland). However, many tremendous accomplishments were achieved. Despite the disappointing semifinal result, they were awarded a final 2008-09 National-ranking of #15 by ESPN.com (and were ranked as high as #3 in the nation during the season).
Over the Christmas break, he took the Broncos to the Nike Southern California Coaches' Showcase in Oceanside, CA, where 13 of the top 20 teams in the country would meet. The Broncos collected victories from excellent opponents Otay Ranch, Watsonville, Cathedral Catholic, and Bellarmine Prep, and then they went on to defeat Long Beach Millikan (#6 NSCAA national ranking) 3-2 to claim the championship and a historic victory for the program.
Other tournament results include winning the 2008 & 2009 Mountain Ridge "Ridge Cup", and the '03, '04 & '05 "BCP Paul A. Micheletti Memorial Christmas Invitational". His teams also claimed the Championship at the '04 & '06 Oceanside (CA) Nautical Cup '04 & '06, as well as taking second-place in the '03 Nautical Cup. The Broncos have also won the 2003, '04, '05, '06, '07, '08 and '09 Desert Valley Region Championships.
He presently holds a USSF National B license, was a head age-group coach with Arizona Olympic Development Program for 6 years, assisted for 4 years with the men's and women's programs at Paradise Valley Community College, and was a staff coach for Scottsdale Juventus SC for 3 years.
A '87 graduate of Brophy, he went on to play for the Gonzaga University Bulldogs from 1988-1991. Coach Kelly also teaches Sculpture and Ceramics at Brophy, and is a commissioned, practicing sculptor. He enjoys long walks on the beach and has a 6 year-old son named Christian. Just win, baby!!!
